Idea for New Community

As you all know, I've been working with a couple of friends attempting to improve my writing. While I love QaF, Brian and Justin, the main reason I write is because I love it. I also enjoy learning and improving, which I believe is a main factor in everyone's journey. So, I started thinking that maybe other authors would enjoy sharing ideas and learning from one another in a safe environment. I know how busy everyone is and this wouldn't be a community expecting you to write stories or anything. Each week we would put up a problem or issue that we all share in writing, and then everyone could comment with ideas and a short example. Of course, you could discuss the issue as much as you want as long as you remember that this is a learning experience and not a forum for openly flaming. I think I've proven that a community can be flame free while having many diverse opinions, types of fiction, and ideas...[livejournal.com profile] qaf_cordial is a perfect example. I'd like to know if this is something that you guys would be interested in giving a try. It will only work if you're willing to participate both with ideas and constructive criticisms.

I will be happy to have some 'teachers' to become a better writer...

Great idea I'm your support team

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-07 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I know I would love to swap ideas and learn from others, too. I hope others want to give it a try. Thanks for the support, Sam.
Hugs!

FYI - I am not a writer but I read both you and Jans intentions so I thought I would share...Jans intentions just started a writers community called shared wisdon (http://community.livejournal.com/shared_wisdom/)

Re: New community

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for letting me know as I had no clue about Jan's community. I've joined [livejournal.com profile] shared_wisdom and have been catching up. I was thinking of doing a workshop community where writers would write a few sentences and then comment with ideas to help. More of a hands on type thing. Actually, I hope I can partner up with Jan's community.
Hugs!

Hi, have you checked out the profile for [livejournal.com profile] shared_wisdom?

I'm not sure if you were aware of it, but that's part of our purpose. I'd love for you to join.

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
No I wasn't even aware this community existed, so thanks for letting me know. I joined and have been trying to catch up on all I missed. So far, I think it's a wonderful wealth of knowledge.

I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been in my post. I was thinking more of doing a writing workshop, where everyone completes little assignments (nothing more than a few sentences) and everyone comments with ideas on ways to improve or helpful hints. Read the reply to Jan's comment for the rest of the information...hehehe.
Hugs!

[identity profile] jans-intentions.livejournal.com 2008-04-07 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love you to join our community. We have already had one well known BDSM author in two other fandoms talk about writing all kinds of kink. (that's just an example of how open we hope to make it.)

What we would love is people who want to talk more about their own writing challenges. I know that I need to lean sometimes. I did there a couple of weeks ago about problems I had with writer's tags.

Anyway, whatever you do, I hope you consider joining since I think the energy would be awesome and we have things in motion that have really helped me. It's no accident I'm writing original fiction again. The stuff I learned there and the support I've experienced really helped.

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hey Jan! I had no idea you'd started a community, but I did join. I'm going to spend some time catching up on all that I've missed...gee I miss out on a lot. *sighs* I have actually already started reading the posts and you've got some wonderful information.

I may not have been clear in what I wanted to do, so I'll probably make another post. I was thinking more of a writing workshop. I learn more from doing than discussing, if you know what I mean. I was looking at putting up writing assignments...nothing too taxing just a few sentences...and then everyone could comment and give examples to help each individual writer. I haven't gotten things completely set up yet, but you can go check out the profile page to give you an idea. [livejournal.com profile] writing_studio

Thanks for telling me about your community and if you don't mind, I'd love to put a link to your community on this one. I figure you can never have too many resources. I fully plan to rec your community when I redo my post. *grins*

[identity profile] shadownyc.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like your going to actually develop this as a community that would be a practicum/writing workshop/tutorial on specific passages.

I think that's a lovely idea and will certainly work side by side with shared_wisdom.

Thank you for the link and I saw that you joined the community.

Is your profile page up?

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but it's still a work in progress. I took a banner from [livejournal.com profile] shared_wisdom's profile page to use as a link. I didn't see who made it, so if you could tell me, I'd give proper credit. You can see the banner on [livejournal.com profile] writing_studio's profile or in my affiliate post. I've been researching some things to do in the community, and it's amazing how many things I've forgotten about grammar. I think both communities could work together. As a matter of fact, I could use whatever topic you guys are discussing as the topic for the practice exercises.
Hugs!

[identity profile] jans-intentions.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
We chose to affliate ourselves (it's sort of permanent linking) with [livejournal.com profile] tamingthemuse because while they service writers as we do, it wasn't redundant since we do different things, so yeah, please get set up and we'll review this. If your community is for writing workshops, we are not doing that. Linking can always be mutually advantageous.

Your user page looks really good and you set that up very fast! Thank you for the link.

I'm glad you joined SW. I hope you find things there you enjoy. We would love your participation.

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not sure what we'll end up doing on the profile. This is still a work in progress. I hope you don't mind, but as I commented to shadow, I took a poster off your profile page and would like to know who made it so I can give credit. I put it on my affiliate list and on the new community. I can remove it if this is a problem.

I'm still trying to catch up on what I missed, but I will participate as much as possible. As I was researching for topics for exercises for the new community, I realized just how much I'd forgotten about grammar. I think the information your community provides will be a great resource to use in the writing exercises. I look forward to working with you.
Hugs!

[identity profile] jans-intentions.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there is no rush on the affiliation. We can see how it goes after you get set up.

The banner is by [livejournal.com profile] sanami276, who designed our community. Thank you on her behalf, credit is always nice.

Grammar is a really big topic, I agree. I'm glad you have found some things there that you think will prove useful. That is why we created it.

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Credit has been given. *grins*

I don't know if I would qualify as a writer, I've taken part in invite only rpgs on Yahoo groups and have just started role playing on IJ ( also beta for a couple of writers), but if did, then I would be very interested in a 'safe', non threatening, learning environment.

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I consider you a writer...you just wrote me a comment. I'd love to have you join the community and I'll be making a post as soon as we have things up and running. Thanks for commenting!
Hugs!

[identity profile] lab-jazz.livejournal.com 2008-04-07 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I clicked "other" as I'm not a writer, but I would be interested in joining the community and putting forward a comment if I felt that I had something constructive to say.

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
You just wrote me a comment...you're a writer. See how easy that is? Actually, I was thinking of doing a workshop type of thing where people write a few sentences and everyone comments with their ideas to help the writer. I'd love for you to join when we get things all set up. Who knows, you might just like to participate in the writing exercises.
Hugs!

[identity profile] das-vroni.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
I really like the idea. And although I´m not a writer, I´d like to join. Even if I´m just writing papers for university, but I think, even those show if you actually know what you´re doing or you....suck. ^^

*hugs*

[identity profile] elyxer.livejournal.com 2008-04-08 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll say the same thing to you that I've said to a couple of others. You wrote me a comment, so you're a writer. This community will help anyone who wishes to write better, regardless of what type of writing. I'll keep the exercises short so everyone can participate. I definitely want you to join. *kiss*
Hugs!
